Sunglasses and UV rays
What are the risks of UV ?
To protect your eyes from UV rays is as important as to protect your skin. The risks are real : the UV rays are invisible for the eyes, but they are present everywhere, everyday, even when the weather is cloudy. The systematic lack of protection can cause on the long term illnesses as keratitis (persistent illness of the cornea) or premature cataract (crystalline lens becomes opaque, which can lead to a total or partial blindness). Wearing protective sunglasses, solar or not, is recommended to preserve your sight capital.
Which criterion for a good UV protection ?
The UV protection depends on the lens material and not on its tint. A white lens can offer a 100% UV protection. For sunglasses, it is not because a lens is tinted that it offers the right protection. The tint protects from luminosity but doesn’t stop UV rays. So, to be well protected, it is important to choose a material which filters 100% of UVA and UVB.
